I understand that while not everyone likes big, hairy, or even fat guys, that doesn't mean that you have to bash on things that you know nothing about. I base my friendships, and my relationships with my other bear friends as pure, and "brotherly". Because that's how we feel about each other. We feel we are brothers. We have each others' backs by any means necessary.
I don't like to judge anyone based on what their preferences are, neither their looks.
All bullshit put aside, we are here to make friends, and to try to unite a community in a way that we gain respect for doing so as well.
I don't know about you guys, but it feels nice to walk into one of the bars/clubs, and people see you, and say "Hey Mr. Bear" or "Papa Bear" or "Daddy Bear" or even "The Bears are here!". You know why? Because we make our presence known by how we act towards EVERYONE.
We're not assholes, we're not conceited, and mostly, we are not judgmental. We feel that we've earned the community's respect by our fundraisers, our parties, our cookouts, get togethers, and being there for one another. We treat each other with respect.
Yes, I know that I'm chubby, or even fat if you want to call me, but I'm damn proud of it.
I have no reason to hide who I am or what I like.
I will always LOVE hairy guys, whether they are fat, muscular, or chubby, and nobody should judge me based on that, just like I don't judge you for being skinny or thin, wearing make up, or even wearing heels sometimes... That's your choice and I applaud you for being so courageous for taking the initiative to be seen like that in public. If you love it, good.
Just don't flaunt it like you're the greatest thing that ever happened.
Nobody's perfect. I know I'm not.
While being a bear is NOT JUST about masculinity, ruggedness, and pride, why would you solely base your opinion JUST on that, and not look at all the other great things that bears are.
If you're ever hungry, you know WE WILL GO EAT.
If you ever feel like having a drink, you know WE KNOW HOW TO DRINK.
If you need help with something, some of us know how to be mechanics, plumbers, artists, accountants, and even nurses!
My point is, just be happy. Don't be negative. Live and Love. There's so much wasted energy when a person acts negative towards people, and it shouldn't be that way. Much love my friends...
As you all may know by now, through word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter, our mailing lists, and maybe even through our website, we will be having our first fundraiser this weekend!
We will be having our first Bear Bust @ EPIC Bar & Nightclub, and we can already feel it's going to be an awesome event. If you are not aware of how a Bear Bust works, or what it consists of, here's a small intro to it!
We will be charging $5 for a bracelet at the entrance. Once you have it, you can go up to the bar, and the bartender will give you red cup with our logo on it, and you will get $1 draft beer all night long! We will also have $1 jello shots!
The point of Bear Busts, is to collect money, and at the end of the year, we donate all the money collected from those fundraisers to another non-profit of our choice. While we still don't know which will be this year, we are working on it.
Meanwhile, we hope that you will enjoy this weekend in the company of the bears, bear lovers, otters, cubs, and many other members of the bear community!
Thank you again for all your continued support!
It had been a while since we all had gotten together for dinner, and today couldn't have come at a better time. The weather is nice and cool, and we're exploring new places.
The bears got together tonight @ Sparrow's. A local restaurant/bar on the far eastside of town.
A couple of the bears had gone there already for the grand opening, and they definitely recommended it, so we went ahead and gathered up the rest of the bears, and went to dinner.
They apparently have "pies" that are the thing to get there. Pies are basically a pizza with a crust over, and in one word to describe this: AMAZING!
If you're interested in checking this place out, it's on the corner of Edgemere and RC Poe, next to First National Bank on Edgemere.
Yes. We do recommend it! BTW, we have to mention also that one of the managers there is a hot bear, and one of the bartenders is a bull. Jussayin' :)
Here's a pic of the "MANEATER PIE" we had tonight. Enjoy!
Well kids, as some of you know, and might have heard by now (especially those of you who have Growlr), apparently there is going to be an attempt to create another "Bear Club" for El Paso.
I think it's interesting that there is the initiative to do this, but what brings me uncomfort and uncertainty, is how serious is this guy in making this "club"?.
First of all, here is what I think; The problem with what he wrote on Growlr, as one of our friends informed us, is that he not only insulted the other group, with facts that don't really pertain to forming a group like this, but it's also not necessary. I mean, first of all, you're saying that you didn't agree with how the other group who didn't "make it" was because all they would do is get together at member houses and have orgies. Then again, you're promoting this "club" on a website that promotes sexual activity. You can't sit there and tell me that Growlr is a website to make friends only. As far as I know, and from what my other friends tell me, who HAVE Growlr, it's a site/app to hook up with guys. Right?
Second of all, it's a shame that you had to say this about the past group, because you'll bring doubts about YOUR group, and maybe others that are out there, in this case, OUR GROUP. For the record, fellow readers, we formed this bear group so that we could make friendships with other bears, make memories, make unforgettable outings, that you want to share with everyone else. Like I've told the other members of our group; if you, and your partner, or whomever, decide to have sexual encounters, that's really none of our business. It's your own personal life, and you choose what to do with it.
Regardless of what happens, I'm here to tell you, as a friend, and a confidant, that our bear group stands. We are extremely happy with what we've done so far, including our AWESOME Bear Newsletter, and we have a couple of more things up our sleeves that we're in the process of developing for everyone out there. All we ask from everyone is that we are given the patience and respect that everybody deserves. We promise that things will be greater, and you'll make or have those moments that you'll remember for a long time.
Finally, Christian & Alejandro are back at 8 1/2 Bar spinning those Tech House beats.
Last night we had a good crowd show up at the bar, and dance along. We want to thank everyone who showed up and came to support!
Now the exciting part... We're excited about having our next event next weekend;
We have posted the event on the website, on our facebook, and we soon will be distributing flyers as well to those that aren't friends with us yet on Facebook or that haven't had a chance to visit the website.
We can't wait! ;)
We could not be more excited about counting down the days until we leave El Paso and head out to Phoenix, AZ for the annual Phurfest event.
It's good to know that there is a bear community that's full of fun and that in return for this fun, they give to a charity or a group.
As of today, there are 19 days remaining...
